Summer of 2008 saw the roll out of CCT Global Communications much anticipated newest service – WiMAX- offering broadband wireless data service in the first instance.   What is WiMAX?  WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) is a second generation wireless digital communication system.  WiMAX can provide a Digital Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) up to a distance of 30 miles for fixed stations and up to 10 miles for mobile stations.  WiMAX allows for more efficient bandwidth use, interference avoidance, and is intended to allow higher data rates over long distances.  WiMAX can be used for wireless networking in much the same way as the more common Wi-Fi protocol and will provide cost-effective broadband wireless access for hundreds of users from each base station.

Speaking after the well attended roll out event for the business community, CCT General Manager Jose Luis Fernandez expressing his confidence in WiMAX, said that “CCT was very pleased with the number and the quality of the businesses which attended the launch and that the introduction of WiMAX in the territory is great opportunity for CCT to leapfrog current technology to offer these businesses wireless broadband service.  This is a great day for the BVI and a significant advancement for CCT Global Communications.  It is further evidence of our long term commitment to meeting the growing needs of our business partners for cutting edge technology as they compete on the global stage.”

CCT Global Communications is positioning WiMAX as a tailored solution to the communications needs of businesses.   There are multiple benefits which will accrue to businesses who subscribe to CCT WiMAX including:   Speed – WiMAX lets you connect to the internet at a variety of different speeds 512kbps up to 4.0Mbps, enabling faster uploads and download speeds.  Reliability – WiMAX is a reliable connection and there is no possibility of broken wires or cables. It is a secure network that never ties up your phone line.  WiMAX is the ideal disaster recovery solution.  Security – WiMAX operates at licensed GHz frequencies making it extremely secure and removing the vulnerability of scanning and packet interception.  Convenience - With WiMAX there is no need to wait.  There will be no interruption to the continuity of your business and no lengthy installation period.   Flexibility - WiMAX tailors your business needs and bandwidth can be changed and upgraded immediately as you business needs change.  This new service has been designed from the ground up and is fully adaptable to meet the growing needs of businesses of all sizes.

Attendees were also treated to an onsite demonstration of the WiMAX technology and how they can use it in their various businesses.   Feedback from those attending was quite positive and several persons expressed keen interest in getting the service for their businesses in the near future.  To date, CCT has confirmed that a significant number and a range of businesses have signed contracts for the service with an equal amount in an advanced stage of discussions.  CCT expects the uptake by businesses will grow rapidly over the next year.
