SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday morning met with several foreign affairs ministers from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

A wide range of issues was reportedly discussed at the closed door conference, and Caribbean Net News understands that several pressing issues were dealt with, including the deportation of Caribbean nationals from the United States.

At the 12th meeting of the Council for Foreign Affairs and Community (CONFOR), the CARICOM foreign affairs ministers discussed the issues that they intended to raise with Clinton, but the ministers were tight lipped after Tuesday’s meeting with the Secretary of State.

It is understood that other important issues relating to CARICOM that were discussed included drug smuggling, human trafficking, and the upsurge of crime in the region. Caribbean Net News understands that Clinton told the Foreign Affairs Ministers tha the US government will increase aid to combat crime in the region by $15 mllion, bringing it to a total of $45 million.

The regional Foreign Affairs Ministers again brought up to the Secretary of State the issue of removing the trade embargo against Cuba, since it is a very friendly country towards he Caribbean islands.
