Oyster Global Marketing2nd Annual International Food Festival A Resounding Success

The HLSCC campus grounds were transformed into a melting pot of cultures on Saturday the 7th of June where the 2nd Annual International Food Festival, Fair and Grand Raffle took place. The BVI Community came out in the hundreds to experience and explore the national foods of the various cultures represented here in the BVI.

 Visitors were able to sample sushi from Japan, egg rolls and other delicacies from the Philippines, jerk chicken, salt fish and ackee and mackerel run down from Jamaica, doubles and mini rotis from Trinidad, vegetable curry from Zambia and various delicious dishes from the BVI.

Bouncing castleThe many kids that attended were delighted by the cotton candy, the candied apples, popcorn, hot dogs and burgers as well as the many activities they could choose from such as the two bouncing castles that were new to the island, the carnival games, face painting and balloons.

The crowd was entertained by the Youth Heritage Dancers who performed a lively meringue and an energetic “cotton eyed Joe” whilst the Cook Island Dancers from Cedar International School show cased their national song and dance. Other performances included the Shooting Stars Steel Band and the Cedar International School band as well as DJ Dre who kept the music flowing throughout the evening.

The much anticipated raffle drawing for the 2008 Land Rover Discovery and the nine other prizes resulted in ten lucky winners. Mr. Leslie Smith won the Microwave oven, Aeley Myers won the Nikon Digital Camera, Mr. Michael Spencer of FCIB won the HP colour Printer whilst Chandy Singh won the DVD player. The Ipod Nano was won by Ms. Celina Winter, Mr. Oeseburg won the Balckberry, whilst Osbert Pole won the HTC Phone. Ms. Julie Engwirda won the laptop, Mr. Collin Mitchel won the Flat Screen Television and last but not least Mr. Ulric Scattliffe was the winner of the grand prize, the 2008 Land Rover Discovery.

Oyster Global Marketing Group, the organisers of the event were delighted by the turn out and are encouraged by the many participants of this year’s festival. While the company organised the event, each school was responsible for the amount of money they raised through the sale of raffle tickets. Each school was given a specific number of tickets to sell and was allowed to keep all proceeds in excess of expenses, with a combined profit of some $45,000.00. Portia Harrigan, Managing Director of Oyster Global Marketing said, “We as an organisation are committed to organizing one charitable event per year and we have chosen the area of education and youth to be our focus. We have been able to successfully raise funds for three schools to date and are looking forward to working with at least one new school next year.”
