The Moorings, continuing their tradition of strong community involvement, and consistent with their Community Partnership Programme, which was launched in 2005, have invited yet another four local primary schools, each to send 20 of their students for a day sail on one of their yachts.

Francis Lettsomme Primary School Goes SailingThe four schools, namely, Alexandrina Maduro Primary School, Enis Adams Primary School, Isabella Morris Primary School and St. George’s Primary School will be sailing on the 30th of May, the 6th, 13th and 20th of June respectively. The day sail programme is intended to help to expose the students to and allow them to gain a better understanding of sailing, the pleasure derived from being on a boat and to foster an appreciation for the beauty of the islands that they are fortunate enough to call home.

“At the Moorings, we believe in community involvement and this extends beyond the boundaries of the traditional retail setting. Whether it's ensuring that we operate in an environmentally conscious way or by continuing to take an active role in youth programs, we remain committed to the BVI and ensuring that the youth in our community are suitably exposed, motivated and are made aware of the many opportunities available to them right here in the BVI” explained Mr. Clarence Malone, Regional Manager of the Moorings.

The 20 students from each school, participating in this year’s day sail programme are all winners of a poster design competition that they were invited to participate in by the Moorings under the theme “The Wind Is Free”.

Mr. Malone continued “We are continuously looking for ways to improve and make the day sail programme both an educational and a creative experience for the kids, which is why we chose to invite them to think about, design and submit a poster highlighting the importance of environmental preservation and conservation this year.”

The top 3, overall winners, of the poster competition all attend the Isabella Morris Primary School. The winner of the first prize is Jasmine Dalmida, the second prize goes to Britanie Prentice and the third prize to Shavon Linton. These winners will receive a gift certificate to National Educational Service or Wheatley’s Book Store for $100.00, $75.00 and $50.00 respectively. The remaining students will be rewarded with a day at sea courtesy of the Moorings where they will be treated to lunch and also receive a “The Wind is Free” t-shirt as a memorabilia.

Selecting the winners was not an easy task and The Moorings is delighted by the overwhelming response to the competition. The Moorings extends their congratulations to all the winners and sincere gratitude to all participants and look forward to welcoming the students and their guardians on their day sail.
